Princess Basma Center

A few days ago three girls and I went to the Princess Basma Center here in Jerusalem which is a center where children with disabilities and a parent go to from around 1 week to 3 months for professional assessment of their disabilities and help with basic needs. The parents go with them to learn how to teach and help their children. They stay for a little period of time and then 3 months later go back to see the childs progess. We stayed there for about an hour and played with the children. It was an interesting experience because none of the children speak English nor do they really know how to communicate in the first place so it was really hard to play with them. Some had down syndrome, some couldn’t see, and others couldn’t hear. We had a good time trying to talk to some of the parents of the children and learning a little bit more about their culture and their families. It made me realize how amazing the parents of children with disabilities are becau
se it is such a hard thing to teach and get these children to listen to you. The top picture is me, Stefanie, and Rachel, The second picture is of me and two of the ladies with their babies. We spent a lot of time talking to them because they understood a little bit of english, and then the bottom picture is of a few of the boy playing.
